My dear friends
This treasure
Today is very special for Lindiwe and me; twenty six years
of years of marriage is another important milestone for which we thank the Lord. As you
would agree I would have loved to take her out for the day but I pray for the serenity to
accept what I cannot change.
In her prayer yesterday Lindiwe thanked God for the grace
that He has shown us all these years. She particularly mentioned the firm foundation on
which our marriage is built. I could not agree more. I chuckled to myself this morning
when I remembered that back in 1979 the most important thing for me was the conviction
that Lindiwe was God's choice for me. It was after that conviction that I discovered that
I loved the young woman - and very much so!
Twenty six years ago there was a lot of youthful vitality
but both of us have had serious health challenges. In my case this has resulted in
paralysis and immobility which in turn curtails her mobility. In it all, I dare say to
God's glory that the flame of love between us did not diminish. Through the exercise, our
spiritual muscles of faith have become stronger.
Yesterday in conversation with a colleague who got married
the same year that we did she mentioned in passing what had come out of her recent visit
to a doctor. A verse immediately stood out for me,
"But we have this treasure in jars of
clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.." (2 Cor
4:7)
Yes dear friends, we contain the treasure of the light of
the gospel and the glory of God in jars of clay - our fragile earthly bodies. The amazing
truth is that even in that God's purposes are served. When God's power overrides our human
frailty people are forced to acknowledge His supernatural working in and through us.
A very blessed New Year to you and your families.
Pressing on!
In His love
Fano Sibisi
