My dear friends
How time flies!
As South African matriculants draw towards the end of their
final examinations my thoughts go back to 1975. I remember the excitement of our matric
class at Dlangezwa High School as we put exams behind us and headed for home - and the
future!
Of course, there was a serious side to our parting; we hand
bonded over the years and we knew that we would miss one another. There was a lot of
emotion as we sang "God be with you till we meet again."
Much has happened in the last thirty years. It is a fact
that many former students of Dlangezwa High School have been outstanding successes; some
occupy key positions in this country.
Interestingly, in the last three decades I have met very few
of my 1975 classmates but when we do we try to keep track of what others are doing. It
humbles us to think that there are some whose progress we cannot follow up because they
have gone beyond the sunset.
These days I reconsidered the words of the chorus of the
song "God be with you till we meet again."
"Till we meet, till we meet,
Till we meet at Jesus feet;
Till we meet, till we meet,
God be with you till we meet again."
So, we shall meet at Jesus' feet. Or shall we?
A friend once told us of a preacher who boasted of his
ability to help people across the river Jordan. I wish the preacher had meant a
counselling ministry to the dying but unfortunately he mistakenly believed that his ritual
prayers for the dead would see them into the portals of heaven. Starting such crucial
deliberations when the person is already dead is fatally flawed.
Those who would sit at Jesus' feet in the Celestial City
must whilst walking on this earth, like Mary, make a conscious decision that constant
fellowship with Christ will be their utmost aim. That decision then informs the order of
their priorities in life.
As much as I would love to be at a reunion of my 1975 class
meeting them at Jesus' feet will be eternally more glorious!
"But one thing is needful: and Mary
hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:42)
Have a blessed weekend.
Pressing on!
In His love
Fano Sibisi
