My dear friends
One of the enduring pictures from my primary school days is
that of an 'AmaVulandlela' (Pathfinders) marching parade. It is as if I can see them
marching,
"One two
One two ..."
The rhythm went along with the song,
"Yibambeni maVulandlela
Yibambeni zinsizwa zodumo
Baya le
Baya le
Siya phambili."
The song calls on the Pathfinders to keep to the fight. Some
will go this and that way but they must go forward.
An old man at the end of the procession caught my attention.
His weak legs struggled to keep up but his walking stick supported him. When they came to
the part about people going in different directions his walking stick would stump to his
right and left; for "Siya phambili" it would go forward.
There was a man who despite his frail frame strove to keep
to the rhythm and pressed on.
The 'Pressing on' theme is a very practical one for me.
Since coming to Christ as a teenager 35 years ago, by God's grace I've burnt all bridges
behind me; there's no going back. Diverting to the left or to the right is also not an
option. There's only one correct direction - forward - because that's where heaven lies!
"I press on towards the goal to win the
prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus." (Phil 3:14)
Have a blessed weekend.
Pressing on!
In His love
