Thank God for the gift of life.
Thank God for good health.
On Friday I rejoiced with the pupils, teachers and parents of
DSS-SA who were at the sports-field. It was the Annual Sports Day.
Daniel Wunderlich as always kindly sent me photos and I could see
that there was a lot of action, excitement and fun.
Let me share with you a thought that I had on fun.
Who is spreading the malicious lie
about God being a fun-spoiler? Clean fun has nothing to fear; God takes issue with
polluted fun.
So, Philip Stegen is back from Europe with his 'makoti' Priscille.
Onkel Erlo presented the newlyweds to the congregation yesterday. Philip said they would
appreciate prayer support.
August 9 is National Women's Day in South Africa. In fact,
the whole month of August is dedicated to women. There are special events around the
country in honour of women.
In spite of the festivities and wonderful speeches there are
serious concerns about the high levels of women and children abuse.
In the light of that tragic reality I was thankful for the women
in different areas who arranged services and prayer meetings for the 9th. One of the main
organisers of such a service was a high ranking policewoman. She acknowledged that in
spite of their efforts in the police service the situation is far from being under
control, hence the urge to cry to God.
Here is a prayer request that came from Joseph Greyling of TNT
today:
"Today (Monday) at 14:00 a TNT team
will leave for the Pretoria TNT outreach. TNT members on the team will be myself (Joseph)
and Martin van der Merwe. Albertus might be joining us for some of the meetings.
Kirsten van der Merwe arranged meetings at
8 schools in their area. He says the drug problem is huge. Lord willing we will also
get together with the CFT members this coming Friday night. We will put updates on the new
TNT website. We have also printed 30 x full colour posters and have pamphlets ready to
leave at the schools.
Please pray for this time as we realize
our need and long to see the Lords name being glorified."
Dr Albu van Eeden is due to address churches in Johannesburg
and Pretoria this weekend on the hot issue of prostitution. He will value your prayers.
Thank you to all the brethren in Europe who hosted Peter Rice. His
main hosts were the Belgian brethren but he also got to visit France, Switzerland and
Germany. He is spending the last leg of his visit with the Dutch brethren.
We welcome back our Dutch CFT secretary Nelly van der Berg who has
just returned from the Netherlands. Apart from visiting her family she also got to see the
brethren.
The families and friends of Stephan Doerig and Esther Huegin are
rejoicing, and so are we. The young pair are to get engaged in Switzerland this coming
Sunday. We wish them God's blessing.
Missing the Point
The
German theologian Helmut Thielicke told of a hungry man passing a store with a sign in the
window, "We Sell Bread." He entered the store, put some money on the counter,
and said, "I would like to buy some bread." The women behind the counter
replied, "We dont sell bread." "The sign in the window says that you
do," the hungry man said. The woman explained, "We make signs here like the one
in the window that says We Sell Bread." But, as Thielicke concludes, a
hungry man cant eat signs.
