As you pray -21 April 2009

My dear friends

Juerg Laederach thanks God for the blessed service they had on Sunday with Onkel Friedel in Bielstein, Germany. He requests further prayers for the service in Lindach tomorrow and special services for the Eurochor the other weekend.

Part of us is in Switzerland these days. Lindiwe and I have a wedding invitation that we just would have loved to honour. Edmund Duvel and Salome Laederach will be getting married in Switzerland on Saturday. We are rejoicing and thanking God with the families and friends. May God bless the young pair.

Greetings from John Powys in Malelane, Mpumalanga province. He shared with me encouraging news of how the Lord's work is growing.

Here is an excerpt from John's e-mail.

"Life here at Malelane is quite busy and hectic at times but the Lord is
always faithful and never fails us. We started a creche for orphans and
vulnerable children last week, we have about 20 so far and they are still
coming. We really need prayer for this ministry as these children come out
of gross darkness and poverty, we need the Lord to touch their lives and
those who bring them in and look after them at home."

John also requests prayers for the trip overseas together with his son, Jonathan. They will be attending the AGM of CFT- Switzerland and other services in Switzerland and Germany.

A Radio Khwezi team visited Shalom Ministries in Greytown and had an interview with the leader of the ministry, Mr Angus Buchan. This weekend Shalom Ministries is expecting in excess of 200 000 men to attend the 2009 Mighty Men Conference. Your prayer support will be valued.

There are many people in South Africa and beyond who have a special burden on their hearts for the 2009 national and provincial elections tomorrow. Due to a set of various reasons the 2009 elections would seem to be more critical and exciting than anything we have seen since the landmark first fully democratic elections in 1994.

Safety concerns are not unfounded. In some area political rivalry has generated a lot of heat that resulted in violent clashes. The government has deployed additional police in some hotspots.

Let us pray on for the elections and their aftermath.

A friend sent me an interesting story. Laugh a little and ponder a lot.

Judge's dilemma

In a small town, a person decided to open up a brothel, which was right
opposite to a church. The church & its congregation started a campaign to
block the brothel from opening with petitions and prayed daily against his business.
Work progressed. However, when it was almost complete and was about to
Open a few days later, a strong lightning struck the brothel and it was burnt to the ground.
The church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, till the
brothel owner sued the church authorities on the grounds that the church
through its congregation & prayers was ultimately responsible for the
destruction of his brothel, either through direct or indirect actions or means.
In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied all responsibility
or any connection that their prayers were reasons for the act of God. As
the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork at the
hearing and commented:
'I don't know how I'm going to decide this case, but it appears from the paperwork,
we have a brothel owner who believes in the power of prayer and we have an etire church doesn't.'

Have a blessed week.

Pressing on!

In His love

Fano Sibisi
