As you pray -20 October 2007

My dear friends

Klaus Alius is thankful for the prayers for the trip to Trans-Dnyster (Transnistien) together with Albert Penner. He says that they are extremely thankful for God's protection and the openness of the people, especially the youth.

Hans Hertel from Berlin requests prayers for their demonstration today against an erotic fair.

The TAK Radio team will be doing some recording at the demonstration for their broadcast tomorrow.

It was good to get more details from Michel Hege, the Eurochor Co-ordinator, on the imminent Eurochor South Africa tour. For those who would like to accompany the choir in prayer the planned itinerary is as follows:

28 October        Pretoria                   Gauteng
29 October        Randburg                 Gauteng
1 November        Nelspruit                 Mpumalanga
2 November        Malelane                 Mpumalanga
4 November        KwaSizabantu         KwaZulu-Natal
6 November        Pietermaritzburg    KwaZulu-Natal
7 November        Durban                   KwaZulu-Natal

An e-mail from the Reimers, Herbert, Mientjie and little David, yesterday confirmed that they arrived safely in Paraguay. They are currently being hosted by Herbert's youngest brother and his family. Let us remember them as they seek the Lord's further direction as to how He wants them to serve Him in that part of the world.

We are thankful for the exposure that Radio Khwezi is making possible for different ministries. On Wednesday afternoon the presenter interviewed two Doctors for Life staff members who were involved in different activities. Heinrich Botes was in the Eastern Cape giving values-based Aids training to workers in a big citrus factory. Johann Claassen was in KwaMashu, Durban, in a medical outreach with Dr Eugene Smith and his wife. Dr Smith is from World Challenge in the USA.

On Thursday morning I got a prayer request from our Johannesburg brother Linda Magqabi who is an engineer with Anglo American. He is part of the Anglo Christian Fellowship and on Thursday they were going to show the DVD "When God comes down." What blessed me was to see how Linda and other Christians are standing up to be counted in their work situation. May the Lord bless their ministry and may many other Christians brighten the corner where they are.

A team from KwaSizabantu will be leaving for Pretoria tomorrow to make the final preparations for the Christian Crusade in Atteridgeville and Saulsville.

Here are more details from the KwaSizabantu website:

True man

One of the constant warnings that get thrown our way nowadays is that we must not be judgemental. Do you also sometimes feel that this is a tactic to scare us away from the truth? Are we being judgemental when we call a spade a spade and not a fork? I suppose that when we say that compared to a fork a spade is poorly designed then we might start talking about being judgemental.

What got me thinking about this topic was an interview on the BBC last night with one of the leading voices in the values voters movement in the USA. These are mainly evangelicals who seek to promote biblical pro-life and pro-family values by giving their votes only to those candidates who are prepared to take a public stand for these values.

The minister explained that they also take into consideration what a candidate's family life is like. At that point he made a reference to former USA president Harry Truman. Truman said that he is very reluctant to hire a man who cheats on his wife. He reasoned that if a man could do that to his own wife then he could do the same to him. Surely, today's humanistic mind would say that Truman was being judgemental. People are entitled to their opinions but I believe that Truman must have been a true man.

Truman's story reminded me of South Africa's former political leaders who received national and international recognition. I was one of those who were shocked and disappointed when it came to light that this man cheated on his wife. In fact, not only did he cheat on his wife but he also cheated on his friend by stealing his wife from him. The next time this leader stood before me with his friend's wife at his side and told me, "Take my word for it" how would I have ever trust him to keep his word to me?

'Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man."' (2 Samuel 12:7)

Have a blessed weekend.

Pressing on!

In His love

Fano Sibisi
