As you pray -30 September 2007

We are thankful that Rev Erlo Stegen and the team from South Africa are back from the Europe Preaching Tour. Onkel Friedel shared briefly about the trip at KwaSizabantu this morning. Praise God for His living Word that we are privileged to proclaim throughout the world.

Dorothea Killus has reminded me that today is "Erntedankfest" (Thanksgiving for the Harvest) for the German Protestant Churches. I was touched when I saw a photo that was taken in 1911 of her grandparents who were missionaries in East Africa. They together with other missionaries were gathered around a mango tree to thank God for their very harvest. The sight is precious.

The TAK Radio team in Berlin would appreciate your ongoing prayer support. For this afternoon's programme their theme will be "Sendung mit Herz" (Broadcasting with the heart) with Felicitas Grosenick from Hamburg as their guest.

On Friday I received a very encouraging report from TNT's Joseph Greyling, yet again confirming that the drug problem is everywhere and through TNT we have a wonderful opportunity to point out to young people the chains of addiction and then point them to the cross. Many doors are opening. Let's remember this ministry in our prayers.

This will be a busy week for Radio Khwezi with all the preparations for the Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 6 October. Your prayers will be appreciated.

We are also thinking of the preparations for the different activities to mark the International Life Chain Day on Sunday, 7 October.

Renaming

One of the current controversial political processes in South Africa is the renaming of places, cities, towns, streets etc. South Africa is no stranger to renaming but the massive scale with which it is happening now is new.

The process is accompanied by a lot of emotion, with some stakeholders complaining that the majority party is exercising the victor's justice; honouring its heroes and ignoring, or even shaming its rivals.

It is not my desire to get embroiled in such controversies but I have to share with you a thought that occurred to me as I considered these developments. One day God will do His renaming of the whole globe, including every place, city, town and street. The new name will be DAA - Dust And Ashes!

"But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.

Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives" (2 Peter 3:10-11)
