As you pray -24 September 2007
My dear friendsJohannes
Laederach is thankful for the prayer support for True Love Waits' tour in Germany, Austria
and Switzerland. It was a blessed time. They are looking to the Lord for further guidance.
We are thankful for God's blessing on the Autumn
Europe Preaching Tour with Rev Erlo Stegen and the team. May the good seed of God's
Word bear much fruit, to His glory.
Today we are thinking in a special way of Henk
Vermeulen, his wife Hannie and the family. Henk had a terrible accident on 24 September
2002 that left him severely handicapped. After three years in hospital the love and
the devotion of his family plus modifications to the house made it possible for him to
return home.
This evening at the Jakobsbron Centre the Vermeulen family has invited friends and the
brethren to a Thanksgiving Service. The aim is to thank God who has granted them grace to
go through in the
challenging circumstances.
One of the Romanian students at CCE, Lidia
Veciunca, came by with some visitors from Romania. She pointed out to me that there are
currently two Romanian students at CCE, two more have applied for admission. We pray
that the ministry in Romania will be blessed.
Johan Claassen of Doctors for Life asks for
prayers for the trip with Dr Eugene Smith and his wife. They will be travelling to
different parts of South Africa, holding services and doing medical clinics.
It was nice to have George Ochse, the leader
of the work at Moreson, in Malmesbury, Western Cape, come by today. We thank God for His
working and pray that He will glorify Himself further.
George will be taking some DFL friends from the
Netherlands to Mozambique to visit DFL's clinic in Zavora. May they be blessed and be a
blessing.
CFT is doing preparations for the International
Life Chain which falls on Sunday 7 October this year. Some prefer to do it on a
Saturday because that suits their situation better. It is our prayer that the message
of life will be heard far and wide.
South African politicians can be very interesting
- and disappointing. In spite of the fact that most of them are responsible for the
new dispensation's secular constitution, from the African Christian Democratic Party (a
small party with a strong voice on moral issues) to the South African Communist Party,
religious language flows freely in parliament; albeit sometimes with carelessness that
amounts to blasphemy.
We have just come out of a bruising 15-day period
where the Floor-crossing Act authorises politicians at national, provincial and local
level to move over to another party without losing their seats. There is widespread
criticism that this act legalises betrayal of colleagues and voters. As you can imagine,
during this period some parties gain at the expense of others.
Recently, a leading politician from one
party could not hold his excitement as he saw their numbers being boosted by walk-overs.
He could already see how they were poised to take over some municipalities. He boasted of
how the 'Sunday school,' the rule by other parties, would now give way to the 'main church
service,' the rule by his party.
By the way, in South Africa Sunday school is
regarded as something for children only. It was during a visit to the USA that I realised
that there is Sunday school for adults too.
In the middle of my amusement about the Sunday
school story a thought crossed my mind. One day, it might be during a serious
parliamentary session, Christ the King of king and Lord of lords will return in His
might and glory. When He comes, He will call off our politician's 'Sunday school' and His
'main church service' will begin. That will be no laughing matter.
"And then shall appear the
sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and
they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great
glory." (Matthew 24:30)
Have a blessed week.
Pressing on!
In His love
Fano Sibisi
