As you pray - 21 June 2007

My dear friends

We thank the Lord for the encouraging reports from the CFT, TLW and TNT teams that were part of the Youth Day actions in Durban and Pietermaritzburg last Saturday. I was glad when I heard some young people sharing on Radio Khwezi what message they had taken to the two cities.

From Malelane, John Powys requests prayers for this weekend. He, Gert de Vries and the Malelane Mission Choir are joining Ds Japie Malan at Adullam Mission for a Youth Conference. Their prayer is that the Lord will work in the hearts and lives of the young people.

John also asks that we remember the work at Malelane, that the Lord will undertake in every need.

Let us remember the staff and the 4th year students of Cedar College of Education as they prepare for their outreach to Botswana, the Kalahari Desert and Namibia from 25 June to 9 July. Dr Ilse Vermaak explains that, "The main purpose is to broaden the students' experience, to expose them to other missions and to give them an opportunity to share the Gospel, reaching out to others not often reached." They are thankful for the way that the Lord has provided for the trip. Pray that they will be instruments in God's hands.

The Kaltbrunn brethren are thankful for the blessed first perfomance of the play "Der kleine Lord" (The little Lord) by DSS-Switzerland last Friday. Juerg Laederach requests prayers for the second performance tomorrow (Friday) and the last one on Saturday.

Another important event at Kaltbrunn this weekend is the celebration of the 100 years of the school at 'Hof Oberkirch.' Former students of the previous school (88 years) and those of (12 years) are expected. May the Lord be glorified.

Klaus Alius, Albert Penner and Irene Schlicksupp flew to the Ukraine on Tuesday for a week of services. Klaus says that at one of the places where they will preach the people have been waiting for five years already.  His prayer is that people will see the Lord and not them.

Yesterday, the Limburg brethren had invited Winfried Klein to share about how he was liberated from alcoholism.

Klaus Deis says that he has been invited to preach in Simmerath (Aachen) on Sunday. Peter Toepfer will take the service in Limburg.

Let us also remember the student ministry that Limburg has in Frankfurt.

Hans Hertel requests that we pray for the TAK Radio programme on Sunday.

Afer the programme CFT has an action in Berlin. They want to gather at the entrance to a rock concert with Marilyn Manson, the man who calls himself the Antichrist Superstar. The Christians want to bring the contrast, God's light, to the darkness. It is their prayer that the Lord's name will be glorified.

Ulrich Heckel and Lydia Moses will be getting engaged on Sunday. We wish them God's blessing.

Bettina Marayag from Times Square Church requested that we pray for the Ministers' Conference in Montevideo, Uruguay, with Pastor David Wilkerson and his son, Pastor Gary. The conference begins today and ends on Saturday.

We have also heard from Dr Peet and Andra Botha who are currently ministering in the England. They thank God for His grace thus far. Every opportunity to share is precious in that country that has become a sophisticated mission field. We pray on.

It was good to hear from Didier Schott in Paris again. They have quite a hectic schedule.

Didier says they have just had the pleasure of hosting Willem and Heidi Vlok together with Nicola Duvel. On Sunday afternoon Willem, a young doctor who has vast experience on the AIDS epidemic, gave a talk on this topic.

On Monday Didier had a meeting with the local Bobigny ministers' fraternal.

This Sunday, the town of Bobigny will be celebrating another 'Fete de la Ville.' The brethren are thankful that they are allowed to bring Bibles in different languages and other Christian literature to this feast that attracts thousands of people from different cultural and religious backgrounds. Pray that the Lord will go before His people.

The Paris brethren are looking forward to the arrival of Peet and Andra next week.

The school in Montmiral will be staging a play on Saturday about Marcellus, a Roman soldier who became a Christian. They will appreciate your prayers..

D T D A G S T H

In the midst of life's challenges if we are prepared to stop for a moment to have a clean smile there will always be something to amuse us.

In my case, this week I found two names of community choirs whose music we play at Radio Khwezi quite interesting. The one was 'Fly To Heaven.' Then came the 'Groutville Holy Handsome Guys.' Quite a combination, but of course, who says that handsome guys should not be holy?

'Fly To Heaven' reminded me of an isiZulu novel that I read many years ago. In one episode a young man was trying to impress a naive young woman about his supposedly good background. He told her that his father was a minister in the D T D A G S T H Church. Upon further enquiry he told her that  D T D A G S T H was an abbreviation for 'Dodge The Devil And Go Straight To Heaven.' Well, in the fifty years of my life I have yet to meet a single member of that church.

Dodging the devil sounds dubious; the Bibles instructs us to resist him.

"Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings." (1 Peter 5:8-9)

Have a blessed weekend.

Pressing on!

In His love
