The School Pledge The Government website at: http://www.info.gov.za/
contains the invitation for the public to submit their opinion. We've downloaded the
article for you. It is in PDF format This is a recent article in Christian News regarding the issue: RADIO DEBATE BETWEEN CFT AND EDUCATION DEPARTMENT ON PLEDGE Recently a half-hour debate was hosted by Radio Khwezi on the issue of the School Pledge. The representative from the Department of Education said that there will be Public Hearings on the issue and the country can rest assured that the Government will take into account the publics opinion. Kjell Olsen, from CFT, debated the issue by pointing out that all previous Public Hearings have ignored the public opinion, whether it was presented at Hearings, Parliament, petitions and letters to Parliamentary committees. This was proven, he said, by the fact that the Public Hearings on Abortion, Pornography, the Amendment to Abortion, all produced well over 90% of opinions against the Governments proposed legislation. Olsen predicted that the same would probably happen with hearings and public input regarding the School Pledge and that it seems as if the Governments tactic is to ignore opinion with the
justification that the public voted us into power and we are therefore mandated to
make the laws. CFT objects to, in particular, is We sincerely declare that we shall uphold the rights and values of our constitution, and promise to act in accordance with the duties and responsibilities that flow from these rights. Since these rights and values include the right to kill unborn babies and for homosexuals to get married, as Christians for Truth we will discourage Christians from making the pledge.
As CFT we have
no problem with the idea of a pledge, such as the last part which includes the words
"'Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika, and the call |
