The Real Reason for the Season – Jesus Christ born for us

Many hundreds of years before Jesus was born in a manger in Bethlehem, the prophet Isaiah declared that the Messiah would be born one day to redeem mankind. These are some of the things Isaiah said about Him in chapter 9 verse 6:

* “For unto us a Child is born” – the Christ Child is born for us. That means that God has remembered you in sending Jesus! You are not forgotten.

* “unto us a Son is given” – He, the Son of God, has been given as the greatest gift to mankind. Don’t worry about scruples as to the exact timing of when Jesus was born (even if it wasn’t 25 December), the fact is that He was born historically and God tells us in His Word that the “Son is given” to us. What a Christmas gift!

* “the government shall be upon His shoulder” – all authority and power is invested in Jesus. When He had finished His commission to die for us, was buried for us and was raised from the dead for us, He told us that “all authority has been given to Him, in heaven and on earth.” Why not submit your life to His wonderful authority? In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus said that His “burden is light”. Are you weighed down by your sins? Come to this Jesus who has the power and love to carry your burdens and give you sweet relief from the things that are pulling you down to hell.

* “His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor” – Let Him be your Counselor and you will discover how truthful and Wonderful He is to you.

* “The mighty God” – shows that Jesus is not just “a son” but the Son. He is God Himself; proving the glorious Trinity of One God in three persons; not three separate entities but One glorious unity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

* “The Prince of Peace” – is the most hopeful Christmas present to a violent and miserable world. The Prince firstly works peace in the human heart which opens fully to Him. Then, He washes and cleanses the person through His precious blood. Then, He brings about real peace and makes that person a peacemaker.

Isaiah wrote many other things about the coming of Jesus Christ. In chapter 53 the path of  the Lamb of God is laid out. For His real reason for coming was not to be a “gentle Jesus, meek and mild”, lying in a crib. He came to die. Yes, the reason for the season is that this Child, born for us, was destined to hang on the Cross. That’s how awful our sins are! That’s why you should receive the Christ Child who is born for you and, through His power and authority as the Son of God, He will change you thoroughly and use you to pass on the Gospel, the real Christmas gift, to others who need to understand the reason for the season of Christmas.
