ASCENSION DAY AND ITS IMPORTANCE

Christians for Truth, together with a number of other organisations and churches, has arranged a special service outside the Durban City Hall for 24 May 2001. From 12 to 2pm various preachers and leaders will speak on the importance of Ascension Day and why it is special to Christians.

Under the new dispensation Ascension Day has been removed from the calendar of holidays. However, to Christians this day is of vital importance since it is the crowning victory of Jesus Christ and is a promise that He will return again.

Below is a copy of the pamphlet which CFT is distributing for Ascension Day.

What is the importance of Ascension Day?

On this day, 40 days after Jesus rose from the dead, He ascended back into heaven.

It was mission accomplished! Jesus had come into this world, taken upon Himself the sins of the world on the Cross, was raised from the dead and returned to glory.

The meaning of Christ's ascension:

  1. It was a visible sign that His ministry was completed.
  2. He had paid the full price for sin (Rom 5:8)
  3. He had defeated Satan (Heb 2:14)
  4. He had broken the power of death (Rev 1:18)
  5. He had given instructions for receiving power to witness for Him (Acts 1:1-3)
  6. It was a promise that He would return in a similar manner (Acts 1:11)
  7. To give gifts to men (Eph 4:8)
  8. To send the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:33)
  9. To become our intercessor and advocate (Heb 7:25 & 1Jn 2:1)

Jesus is the ascended Saviour. He gave His all for you - give your life to Him.
