Issue Paper on Sexual
Offences: Adult Prostitution
On behalf of Christians for Truth, representing 107 000 members,
we express our hope that the Law Commission of South Africa will take note of the
Constitutional Court's ruling upholding prostitution as illegal (9 October 2002).
We call on the Law Commission to also take note that in most countries where the
decriminalisation of prostitution has been considered and experimented with for some
years, the reverse trend is now the norm.
In a society saturated with HIV/Aids, we feel that a technical
loophole allowing prostitution on any basis will only add to the abuse of poor children.
Many children, orphaned as a result of their parents dying from Aids, will find
prostitution an easy but destructive way out of economic misery.
Decriminalisation of prostitution would be a "yes" vote
for paedophilia.
Yours faithfully,
