Family towers come crashing down in South Africa
by Rev Fano Sibisi (President of CFT) For some it was just
a news item. But for those of us who understand something of the battle for the souls of
men, our hearts weep for South Africa. The Constitutional Court's ruling yesterday that
gays and lesbians can jointly adopt children flies in the face of God's law. And there
will be consequences. The fact that the two women who fought this through are judges tells
us something about how far the "Pink Agenda" has gone in our beloved country.
Some will tell us that the Constitutional Court was bound by the country's constitutional
principles to come out with this verdict. Is that so? May be. Interesting though to see
how some members of the Constitutional Court stand on the issue of homosexuality.
Back to the constitution. Some of us warned even when it was
adopted that some interest groups would push this far. And further. What moral boundaries
are there for a secular constitution? It's tragic to see how helpless many South Africans
feel as they hear about these developments. Even more tragic is how most do not even grasp
the magnitude of what has come upon us.
How significant that on the eve of September 11 the Constitutional
Court ruling has crashed on the institution of the family as God intended it to be!
Another issue being decided in high places right now is
prostitution. As it is, we have been re-educated to refer to them as "commercial sex
workers." They might soon be getting their "constitutional rights" as well.
Decriminalisation or full legalisation. The difference is only technical; the message to
the public and future generations is the same. Is it hypocrisy or naivity that many of our
leaders claim to be concerned about the moral decline in the country? What do such rulings
make of efforts to rebuild the moral fibre of society? The Bible warns us, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for
whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." (Galatians 6:7)
If this is the kind of godlessness that South Africa plants today
I shudder to think what the harvest will be. |
