Dear CFT members

EXCITING CFT CONFERENCE PROGRAMME

This year’s AGM (5 – 7 September) is packed full of exciting information, which is sure to interest you. The theme is `Lighthouse on the shore’.

This theme will put the spotlight on dangerous rocks where many "ships" go aground as well as enlightening Christians about safe directions for their journey.

To equip you further, CFT is putting together a computer CD that will contain most of the weekend talks and slide shows. We hope to make this available (at very low cost) by Saturday night, so that you can return home and shine the light for others.

Some of the highlights of the programme include:

  1. A 30-minute talk by John Smyth, QC on "South African law and homosexuality.
Mr Smyth, Queen’s Council, of the Christian Lawyers Association, has been studying the debate around gay pressure on Government to give homosexual couples formal recognition. We’ve requested Mr Smyth to keep in mind that our audience would prefer to hear plain English (which would be understandable and interpretable in Zulu) and not `legalese’.

  2.
  3. A newly released film `The New Barbarians’.
"The subject of this unique video is the terrifying result of a volatile combustion of religious ideology and political fervor as it today merges into a frightening influence over millions of young Muslims worldwide.
Much of the footage in this video is a sampling from hundreds of hours of actual footage off Arab TV taken from children’s programming, cartoons and news footage which continues to daily condition and incite the masses towards hatred and violence."

Besides the film there will also be a slide show presentation by Dr Peter Hammond on `Islam in Africa’. Peter (Director of Frontline Fellowship) will also show recent photographs of the anti-Christian campaign by Nigerian Muslims.
  4. A half-hour presentation on `South African Education laws and Christian families’.
This topic is to be presented by Jeanine McGill of Africa Christian Action.

Jeanine has been studying the issue closely and has been involved in much of the public debate. The topic of Education laws (including the recently passed `Religion in Schools’ Act) is of vital importance to Christian families. Come to the conference and find out more.
  5. Biblical meaning of a lighthouse
In the opening message on Friday night Rev Erlo Stegen, Director of Kwasizabantu Mission, will be speaking on verses relating to the conference theme.
  6. A Powerpoint slide show on the year’s CFT activities, South African and other countries, as well as Lighthouse pointers for the way ahead.

We look forward to your attendance. A copy of the draft programme is attached to this email.

Finally, come to the conference and receive fresh directions on making sure that your lighthouse stands strong in the stormy seas and is able to shine forth for others.

In Christ

Kjell Olsen
