John 8:12
"Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, 'I am the light of the world. He who
follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.'"
Matt 5:14
"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be
hidden."
1) Jesus said, "I am the light of the world"
The story is told of a battleship, which saw another light approaching in the distance.
The captain signaled to the other light to turn out of its way. However, promptly the
reply came that the battleship must turn or be destroyed. Furious the captain signaled
again that he is the captain of a battleship and demands the other to turn. Again the
reply came that the battleship must turn or be destroyed, for the other light is a
lighthouse on the shore.
You might think a lot about yourself, not realising that God is speaking to you. He is the
boss and the one to obey. Jesus is Lord and He has the final say. He can change things as
He wants. He can demand what He wants from you and me. He is the Owner and Creator of
everything.
The following is a poem of a lighthouse:
There's a lighthouse on the shore
That overlooks life's sea.
When my soul is tossed
It sends out a light that I may see
And the light that shines in darkness
Now safely leads me home
And if it wasn't for the lighthouse
This ship would be no more
Everybody that lives around us
Says, 'Tear that lighthouse down'
Because the big ships
don't pass this way anymore
There's no use for it anymore
But my mind goes back to one stormy night
When just in time, I saw the light
It was the light from that old lighthouse
There up on the hill
I thank God for the lighthouse
I owe my life to Him
For Jesus is the lighthouse
And from the rocks of sin
He has shone the light around me
The Lord is my light and my salvation
He has shone the light around me
So that I might clearly see
And if it wasn't for that lighthouse
Where would this ship be?
2) Jesus said, "You are the light of the world" and
"As the Father has sent Me, so send I you"
If it's dark in this world, we should ask ourselves, why. Do the light shine no more. We
should pray and ask God why it is so dark in the world. Jesus said that your light ought
to shine so that all might see it where you are. We also must be a lighthouse, and let His
light shine through us.
In a certain country there was a town close to the sea where many ships came to dock.
However there was no lighthouse and during storms, many ships, being attracted by the
lights of the town, were shipwrecked on the rocks. No one in the town cared for the
strangers that perished and felt that it was too expensive to build a lighthouse. One day
a certain man felt compassion for the ships that were continually shipwrecked and he
bought a piece of ground at the sea and built his house there - a lighthouse. Many ships
were saved, but still some ships were shipwrecked in violent storms, because they saw the
light too late. He would then save many sailors at the risk of his own life, and nurse
them back to health, until they were able to depart again. He realised that the work was
too great for him, and he prayed for help. Eventually one man came to see his courageous
work, and volunteered to help him. Soon he was joined by more men and women and they could
man the lighthouse round the clock. More and more ships were saved, even during violent
storms, but now and then a ship was still shipwrecked. However, being a big team, they
could save many sailors and nurse them back to health. All this through the compassion and
obedience of one man.
Not all that say, "Lord Lord" will enter heaven, but only those that do His will
and are obedient to His commands. Are you one of those that obeys God? He is the light,
but you also need to be the light of the world. His light must shine through you |
