Radio Live

A team went to Durban on Saturday, 08 April for an open-air
outreach. CFT, True Love Waits, TNT (The Naked Truth about Drugs and alcohol) and Doctors
for Life were all represented. The outreach was done as a Live Radio, with live and
prerecorded presentations, and music. The 'program director' was Jenny Christmas.
The presentation was held outside of the Workshop, and the crowds
were impressive. But the music from Radio Live soon turned heads. It was audible from well
inside the Workshop. Jenny Christmas had not even started calling people to attention when
curious passers-by were stopping to listen. Even more people quickly sat to hear when
Jenny extended the welcome.
As soon as enough people had gathered, Mrs Christmas invited Mr E
Schroeder to open in prayer and Mr B Hlongwane introduced CFT to the listeners.
After Mr B Hlongwane had finished Mr Christian Hlongwane spoke for
TNT.
He firstly introduced TNT to the people then he gave a part of his testimony. He told us
how he got hooked onto marijuana. He also told how many youngsters get trapped into drug
addiction, especially marijuana. They are told that it will make them smart somehow. Then
he proceeded to break that myth down, by describing the effects marijuana has on a
person's appearance and behavior.
The sincere testimony spoken from an ex-drug addict touched hearts in the audience.
True Love Waits had an audio recording which introduced True Love
Waits. After that Me Nonkululeko Mbotho and Mr Emmanuel Majozi spoke in Zulu about TLW.
What they essentially said is that a young man or woman with no unmarried partner is not
mad or queer in any way. One can lead such a life today in Jesus. Courage was given as
well to those who are under pressure to give away their virginity; in the knowledge that
well over 200 000 young people in South Africa have pledged to keep themselves pure. Those
who had lost it already were encouraged to let Jesus rebuild it.
Doctors for Life had an audio presentation. Me Dianne Ruschenbaum
elaborated on DFL's work. Project Lifechild and Aid to Africa were mentioned. They also
had a display, with pictures decrying abortion and showing different DFL projects. This
display drew many people who would have otherwise passed by without listening to what was
being said. We pray that the seed that was planted may continue to grow.
Rev. Richard Cebekhulu was given an opportunity to speak. He also
related of his life in bondage to drugs and alcohol, his deliverance and his new life.
Many people could relate to his testimony because he once lived as a hobo in Durban.
Mr Johannes Delport spoke of his drug addiction and deliverance.
Mr Marius Pretorius gripped the audience with his story of the
How-to-get-the-cheese-without-being-trapped Conference for mice. He applied it to young
men and women who seek immediate gratification and who are not willing to wait. The
message was very clear, "Men, leave that cheese alone. Women, leave that cheese
alone!"
Mr Martin Coultman described how he fell from his position of
relative financial means to paupery, with the help of drugs. He told how he was attracted
to drugs because of the so-called educated people who were using them - doctors and
lawyers included.
Rev. Gingqi warned people about the effects of leading an immoral
lifestyle. He especially pleaded with the parents of children in prostitution not to be
happy when their daughters bring home groceries; when these have been bought with money
from prostitution.
Various Christian young people had an opportunity to speak about
being morally upright as a young person and giving your life to God whilst in your youth.
These included Sipho Hlongwane and Johanna van Vuuren.
This was a wonderful opportunity to reach out to people with the
Gospel message. We are thankful to God for what the people could hear and we hope it will
make a difference in their lives.
