International Life Chain Action - Durban - 6 Oct 2002
Thousands of people heard the pro-life message on International
Life Chain Day, 6 October.
Together with several churches and organizations, CFT planned an
open-air program in Durban for 5 October. About 5 thousand info pamphlets advertising the
event had been handed out the day before.
The main aim of the Life Chain action was to remind people of the value of the unborn
child. Although the South African law has legalised abortion, it is still murder in God's
eyes.
We chose The Workshop as venue, a crowded place where many people,
both young and old, go to shop or eat out. More than 200 pro-lifers held placards saying:
"Abortion Kills Babies", silently lining the street and park. Others handed out
tracts and info leaflets with the purpose of making contact.
With the assistance of Radio Khwezi, CFT set up a 'mock' radio
(Radio Life) from where we broadcasted messages and news bulletins informing people of the
dangers of abortion. Speakers from different churches shared messages of hope. Adverts of
different organisations such as 11th Hour Counseling, True Love Waits, Doctors for Life
and Souls Outreach could also be heard on Radio Life. Pastor Alvis of Souls Outreach gave
a Gospel message and made an altar call. Later on Rev Joyce Adams, an African American
lady also gave a message from the Word of God. There was an encouraging response.
On the whole it was a very successful campaign. We should not grow
weary of sending out this message. As children of God it is our duty to constantly show
the way. The next pro-life action in which CFT will be involved is Sanctity Life Sunday on
2 February 2003. We will be remembering the approximately 270 000 South African babies who
have been aborted since the legalisation of abortion on demand in South Africa on 1
February 1997.
